I love all the animals that are in my life. They all have different animal-personalities.
For the cats I love that you can just put out some food and water and leave them be. They go where they want, and you do not have to worry about them (this is for female cats, male cats are much different... female are easier), but at the end of a long day they are there for you. To keep your lap warm, and to love you without end.
For the pups, I love the loyalty. That they get so excited to see you, even if all you did was go get something from the car and come back in. I love how they look up at you, and seem to love and to trust you. You are their pack leader, if you have their back, they have yours.
The horses are so much different for the house animals. They do not usually come to you for "love", there has to be something more. What I love about them is they trust they will form with you, if you give it time. They are not "manhandable" because of the sheer size and power they posses, so trust is a big part of the relationship. For example: when flag broke his leg, he trusted me enough to load him, and better yet, unload him from the trailer to get him to the vet. That might have been that the pain was keeping him subdued, but I think that trust played a role too. Or even more sad... when Slim my huge beautiful sweet boy, hurt himself so badly we had to load him up for his last trailer ride to be put down, he trusted for us to load him, not knowing what was ahead for him. They are majestic, and beautiful...the kind of animal that will send shivers down your spin.
All anilmals have politics. With cats it is more a territory thing/agreement. "You leave my bed alone, I will leave your bed alone". For "los perros", it is more political because Duke is a major puppy. He wants the rawhide Faith has, even though he has his own . So he will bark his deep hound barn until she leaves and he can have it, or he will stare are her until she looks away and dash in to steel the bone. It is a more political manor, "take what you want, then either leave it alone or fight for it". With the horses, it is harder to understand. Personally I think because we are not prey animals, and they are, we cannot relate as much. There are the obvious, such as pecking order (who eats first), and there are the less obvious...why rosie gives in to flag's pined ears even though she is probably 100lbs+ heavier.
All so interesting, but if I do not stop soon I will keep going on and on about my animals. So there you have it.
